The Rundown

As I upload the pics of McKinley's birthday for a different post, here is the rundown on our house lately.

From 2009-08-30

Lincoln has been enjoying school. I get him up to read with me for a half hour everyday at 7:30. One of his great pleasures seems to be eating everyone's leftovers at lunch. Almost every day he will come home reporting that so-and-so did not want his apple juice, or chips, or capri sun, or cookie and they passed it to him. I guess I will continue to not put those things in his lunch!

Truman enjoys riding his bike to school since the walk is sooooo far. He is Mr. Independent, so I am choosing my battles. One battle we fight is over homework. He gives up and throws his pencil 10 seconds into whatever he is doing, whether it be writing his name 3 times or a small a. Once we have a 30 second drama about how he can "never do it," the tiger within takes over and he will stop at nothing to get it perfect. His satisfied smile is worth all the heartache.

Jefferson finds great pleasure in dressing himself every morning. He checks to make sure everything is not backwards some days, and on others quite the opposite occurs. He wishes he were old enough to go to the Temple and promises if we take him with us, he "will be weawy quiet and sit stiw".

McKinley is always carrying a doll or purse or phone or glasses around. She is a great mimic and can be found nursing her baby on the couch next to me - we are working on spoon-feeding cereal these days.

Reagan, or Reagel Bagel as she is known around here, is rolling all over the place. It is her preferred (or only) method of transportation when Truman is not around to haul her from room to room. She is patient as he changes her diapers, McKinley steals her binkies, Jefferson feeds her and Lincoln tries to make her laugh. I love her smile cuddles.

Brian is working hard and has taken on the roll of bread-maker to complement his roll of bread-winner. Inspired by Katherine's K is for Kithen blog, we are tackling the cheaper and more tasty make-your-own-bread way of life. But is it cheaper if I eat 3 times as much? I will have to do the math.

I have tried some new things, like avoiding all housework by canning pears and tomatoes and refinishing a little wooden hutch for McKinley. The laundry is the main casualty, but all in the name of food storage, right? It is chaos, but I love it.

Very well done.

New Words

"Lingatralaga woonisimba..." - No, this is not advanced baby talk by Reagan. This is Truman speaking "LST" (Lincoln, Sarah, Truman) language to Reagan all day long. He swears she understands and speaks the language as well.

Pim - Means "a bit" - This word was invented by Truman and he uses it a lot. If Lincoln hits him he will say, "That did not even hurt a pim!" I did not cut his sandwich clean through and he complained saying, "Hey Mom! You didn't even cut this a pim!" The downside to this word is most people think he is saying pimp.

Peanutbutteran - This is how Jefferson thinks you say "peanut butter". He does not usually like jelly so he will ask for a "peanutbutteran samwich" as opposed to a peanutbutteran/jelly sandwich.

Jefferson also woke up the other day and said he had a really long "snap" - even longer than bedtime! I think it was just his sleepy brain talking because I have not heard it repeated.

McKinley has new phrases -

"My singer" (my finger) means, I will just keep Reagan's binky on my finger and not in my mouth.

"Don't shutda door" - This is her new bedtime thing and she goes to bed without a fess if we leave the door cracked and the hallway light on. I think it is partially the light and mostly the fact that she can feel more a part of the chaos of getting the boys to bed across the hall.

"Emily went bye-bye" - This is a song she walks around singing once or twice a day. She sometimes sings it about Gamma and sometimes about Sawah or Libbi and other relatives who have come through this summer. Emily is our most recent loss and she "feels it keenly". I am sad to not hear her call, "Emily! See someping in my woom!" She says Emily's name sooooo cute.

Fun Run

From 2009-08-30

We participated in a Fun Run service project put on by a Young Women group from a ward in our stake. Lincoln was geared up to run 3 miles, but I was pushing Reagan and McKinley and had Jefferson on his hotwheels bike so we just did the 1 mile race. He and Truman ran the whole way and had a great time. Jefferson was very enthusiastic and was sure we were the winners (I think we were last - or close to it!). All the kids enjoyed the complementary treats after and I won a gift certificate for a free Great Harvest Bread loaf in the raffle.

They had games for the kids when the running was done and a bake sale as well. Exercise and treats - what a great combo!

First Grade!

Lincoln's first day of first grade was last Monday. He was thrilled to take lunch to school. He had picked out a new green lunch box that had its own green tupperware box in a bottom compartment. His first day he took broccoli with ranch, PB and honey, tortilla chips, an apple and one of Brian's famous cookies. When he came home he had eaten 1/3 of the cookie, a bite of the sandwich, half the chips, all the broccoli and his apple on the way home. Now we send fruit, maybe half a sandwich, and broccoli. That kid LOVES broccoli.

Drama x 10!

Okay, look. This video isn't funny. Its actually pretty dramatic on several levels and we hope we don't drive you away with it.

However, it is quite the memory. Welcome to just few fun minutes at our house.

Lincoln lived through the experience and is doing just fine now.

Some River Rafting Photos

Well that only took a few months...

Sorry for the long, long delay.

Here are one set of pictures from our summer adventure. There are several more we have and soon we will post the rest of them.
